On July 25, 2007, IETF, Internet Engineering Task Force, organization which is the largest internet standard body, promulgated the first RFC promoted and prepared by EAI (Email Address Internationalization), i.e. Overview and Framework for Internationalized Email, numbered RFC4952. The official announcement of this RFC document means that the framework for internationalized email addresses has obtained the consensus of the world.

RFC4952 puts forward the basic solution for internationalized email addresses. The internationalized email address is another important technology for realization of multiple languages in Internet communications after the introduction of multiple domain name webpage browsing. It provides a practicable technical framework solution for global Internet users from non-English-speaking countries or regions to use their own native languages in their email addresses.
